Human Rights and Advocacy
Bourke Walgett Brewarrina
We are taking a community development approach to this project by building the capacity of Aboriginal women to advocate for law and policy reform. We will develop a report and DVD for the community to use in their lobbying process.
We aim to:
- Improve the human rights for Aboriginal women in Bourke, Walgett and Brewarrina by improving services to the local communities.
- Influence government in addressing issues around human rights for Aboriginal women in Bourke, Walgett and Brewarrina eg. Qualified people to use rape kits so women don’t have to travel up to 4 hours away. or qualified mid wives so women can have their babies in town and not have to travel long distances.
- Meetings with government officials and/or politicians.
