Domestic Violence Advocacy Service
The Domestic Violence Advocacy Service (DVAS) is a specialised legal
service for women experiencing domestic violence. Our main objective
is to inform women of their legal rights and their right to access the
services that are available. DVAS provides a range of free and confidential
legal services including:
- Casework, legal advice and advocacy
- Education and Training
- Committees and Consultations
- Policy Development and Law Reform
DVAS is the only dedicated legal service of its kind in Australia, and
consequently acts as a peak body in the area of domestic violence.
DVAS
was established in 1986 when the Women’s
Legal Resource Centre (WLRC) identified the need for a Community
Legal Centre to solely assist women experiencing domestic violence.
